Peace Dollars

Peace Dollar ValuesThe Peace dollar was a US silver dollar minted in honor of the end of World War I. It would be the last US dollar minted with pure silver. A total of 190,577,279 Peace dollars were produced between 1921 and 1928 and in 1934 and 1935. The coin was struck with .900 fine silver and 10% copper with a silver content of 0.77344 troy ounces. With a current silver spot price of $42 Peace Dollar values start at $45 in a grade of Very Fine-20 and quickly move up in price depending on grade and scarcity of each issue.

Its simple and esthetic design sports a perched bald eagle clutching an olive branch on the reverse face. The obverse face bears the profile of lady Liberty, common on many US coins, in this case with a crown inspired by the Statue of Liberty. The design is the work of the design commission’s contest winner Anthony de Francisci, an Italian immigrant well known for his sculptures and medallion designs.
