1950 Roosevelt Dime
Coin Info
1950 Roosevelt dimes are a popular coin for collectors of 20th century silver coinage. First produced in 1946 and designed by John R. Sinnock, the Roosevelt dime was a popular coin from the first day of production. The dime features a bust of Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the obverse; on the reverse is a flaming torch that represents Liberty, an oak branch that symbolizes strength and independence, and an olive branch that signifies peace.
Tens of millions of 1950 Roosevelt dimes were minted, as can be seen below:
-
1950 – 50,130,114; $3
-
1950-D – 46,803,000; $3
-
1950-S – 20,440,000; $3
-
1950 proof – 51,386; $60
*Values are for coins in a grade of Extremely Fine 40, unless otherwise stated.
Notice that among the three regular issue coins from the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco mints is the 1950 proof Roosevelt dime. 1950 marked the first year since 1942 that proof coins were made at the U.S. Mint. The 1950 Roosevelt dime is collected mainly by die-hard enthusiasts of the series, though is generally not considered necessary for a “complete” date-and-mintmark set of Roosevelt dimes. Across the board, 1950 Roosevelt dimes are highly common and can be easily found at most any coin dealer who specializes in U.S. 20th century issues.
