After a three-year hiatus, production of Walking Liberty half dollars resumed in 1927, though with an anemic output. Only 2,392,000 Walking Liberty halves were struck in 1927, and they were only made at the San Francisco mint, repeating the production scenario of 1923. Also similar to the situation with 1923 halves, because just one mint struck half dollars in 1927, this San Francisco issues enjoys popularity not only from date-and-mintmark series collectors, but also year set collectors.

Interestingly, despite the spotlight that 1927-S Walking Liberty half dollars bask in, prices are quite soft for this issue, at least in the lower circulated grades. In fact, 1927-S Walking Liberty half dollars can be purchased for under $15 in the grades of Good-4 or Very Good-8. Prices ascend to more than $150 for an XF-40 specimen, which is consistent with the pricing scenario for virtually all Walking Liberty half dollars struck prior to 1934.

As with all Walking Liberty half dollars, always take a little extra time to seek the best examples for any of these early Walking Liberty half dollars. Choice pieces are relatively scarce but will look better in your coin collection and will provide better returns when the time comes to sell.
