1929 Standing Liberty Quarter

1929 Standing Liberty quarters are generally easy to acquire, given their high mintage and the fact that they were saved in large numbers across all grades. The fact that around 14 million were produced and a vast number of these continue to survive to this day helps to make 1929 quarters easily affordable for series collectors who are trying to fill holes in their Standing Liberty quarter albums. For the type collector, 1929 quarters represent an easily obtainable goal in the case of buying something in the Mint-State 60 to 63 range.

• 1929-D – 1,358,000; $12

• 1929-S – 1,764,000; $9

The only issue of the three among 1929 quarters that some coin collectors may have some difficulty in obtaining is the 1929-D, which has a marginally higher value in the middle and upper circulated grades than the 1929 and 1929-S in comparable grades and is considered a slightly “tougher” date in some respects.

In Mint-State 60, all three 1929 issues are worth roughly the same, at around $200 each. If you are buying uncirculated Standing Liberty quarters, you may want to consider spending a little extra cash and buying the exceptionally well-struck Full Head (“FH”) examples, which are quite beautiful coins that many investors have favored over the years.
