1928 Standing Liberty Quarter
Coin Info
1928 Standing Liberty quarters are common across the board, with all three issues – Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco – registering well over 1 million pieces each in terms of their original mintages. Of course, fewer specimens exist today than when they were originally minted, but 1928 quarters remain common today and are easily obtainable.
Here’s a glance at the 1928 Standing Liberty quarters issues:
-
1928 – 6,336,000; $9
-
1928-D – 1,627,600; $10
-
1928-S – 2,644,000; $10
*Values are for coins in a grade of Good-4.
1928 quarters are relatively inexpensive, and don’t generally cost more than $3 or so above melt value for examples in Good-4. Lower-grade circulated specimens are ideal for series collectors on a budget, whereas the higher-end pieces, including uncirculated examples, are perfect for type collectors.
If you find yourself in the latter category of coin collectors, who can afford to drop some extra cash on uncirculated Standing Liberty quarters, go the extra mile and buy a Full Head (“FH”) example. These are beautiful coins with rich detail.
All collectors can look for the large and small mintmark varieties with the 1928-S quarter. Though the size of the mintmark has little if any bearing on value in this case, the two “S” mintmark sizes generate a little fun among enthusiasts.
