1925 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle
Coin Info
1925 Saint-Gaudens double eagles are named for Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the famous sculptor who President Theodore Roosevelt commissioned in 1907 to redesign the $20 gold coin. Roosevelt sought a renaissance of American coinage, which he felt had become staid during the 19th century. Roosevelt accomplished his goal of reviving the artistic aspects of U.S. coinage with the Saint-Gaudens double eagle. The coin is widely considered the most beautiful U.S. coin ever produced.
