1906 Barber Quarter

1906 Barber quarters are considered common by most coin collectors and are easy to locate. In general, 1906 is one of the cheapest years in the Barber quarter series in terms of the prices for Good specimens. In fact, it’s quite possible to buy one example of each business-strike issue in good for as little as $40 or so combined – a true bargain in comparison to other years in the series.

Perhaps what is most noticeable about the list of Barber quarters above is the inclusion of the Denver mint, which first struck quarters in 1906. The proof 1906 quarter, on the other hand, is the most expensive Barber quarter issue that year in the absolute sense.

Barber quarters were designed by United States Mint Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber and were first issued in 1892, replacing the Seated Liberty quarter that had been in production from 1838 through 1891. Barber quarters are considered common as a type and very low-grade specimens are often found in junk silver portfolios.
