A healthy number of 1911 Barber dimes were produced, with a total production figure of more than 30 million. What’s more, all three of the then-operating mints brought forward a healthy number of coins, with the San Francisco mint producing the fewest dimes that year, but enough to supply the nation’s coinage needs. To this day, enough 1911-S dimes exist to fill the needs of coin collectors.

Here’s a breakdown of 1911 Barber dime mintage figures and values:

  • 1911 – 18,870,000; $5

  • 1911-D – 11,209,000; $5

  • 1911-S – 3,520,000; $7

  • 1911 proof – 543; $600

*Values are for coins in a grade of Good-4, unless otherwise noted.

The Philadelphia mint carried the bulk of the dime production in 1911, with nearly 20 million ten-cent coins coming from that one facility alone. The Denver dime, which came from a facility that carried about a third of the overall circulation production of dimes that year, is worth about the same as the more common Philadelphia dime in a grade of Good.

Proof 1911 Barber dimes are quite scarce, though are not usually included in a business-strike series set and can be avoided by cash-strapped coin collectors who would like to focus their funds on the scarcer issues form earlier in the series.
