2015 American Silver Eagles broke records when some 47 million were made during the course of that year, exceeding the 44,006,000 that were struck in 2014. The 2015 American Silver Eagle certainly proved as popular as any of the other coins in its series, which represent by far one of the most widely known silver bullion coin programs in the world.

The obverse of the American Silver Eagle features a modified and modernized version of the famous Adolph A. Weinman Walking Liberty design that graced United States half dollars from 1916 through 1947. On the reverse of the 2015 American Silver Eagle is a heraldic eagle design, which, like the Walking Liberty motif, has graced Silver Eagles since the inception of the coin in 1986.

Several varieties of 2015 American Silver Eagles were made, including the “bullion” version, which would have been simply called “uncirculated” prior to the 2000s. Also made in 2015 were proof American Silver Eagles and burnished Silver Eagles, the latter of which feature a matte finish.

The proof and burnished 2015 American Silver Eagles, which sell for well beyond their spot value, appeal mainly to numismatists. Meanwhile, the bullion version of the 2015 American Silver Eagle is available for just over its silver price (currently $29.49) and is thus more commonly sought by precious metals investors. However, it should be noted that many coin collectors pursue year-by-year collections of American Silver Eagles and will choose the bullion versions of these coins over the proofs in favor of the less expensive option.
