2000 American silver eagles are highly popular among both investors and coin collectors for many reasons, including the fact that they were among the first coins struck bearing a date from the 21st century (and the third millennium). The one-ounce silver coin has a fineness of .999 and is one of the most popular silver bullion coins in the world, along with the Canadian Maple Leaf and Mexican Libertad.

The 2000 American silver eagle bears an obverse image of Liberty walking toward the sunrise while holding an olive branch in her hands. This design actually debuted in 1916 on the half dollar and remained on that coin until 1947. The design, by Adolph A. Weinman, became so beloved by the American public that the work was revived on the American silver eagle in 1986 and has remains to this day.

9,239,132 uncirculated American silver eagles were struck in 2000 at the West Point mint, meanwhile, 600,000 proof specimens were made at the Philadelphia mint. Neither the uncirculated nor the proof 2000 American silver eagles are considered especially scarce. The uncirculated version can be bought for a small premium over melt value while the proof specimen is worth around $20 over the spot price.
